چکیده

A stabilized finite element method is adopted to solve the Navier–Stokes equations written in arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian from. Extensive simulations are undertaken investigate vortex induced vibration characteristics of a piggyback circular cylinder system, or smaller rigidly connected main one. In particular, system three-degree-freedom motion, its rotation motion taken into account, while previous work very much focuses on translational motions. This achieved though using remeshing during system. Various case studies have been at Reynolds number Re=100, as prime purpose not about turbulence itself but effect interaction with flow. results provided show behaviours different orientation relative incoming The rotational extensively investigated. Key physical features highlighted and conclusions then drawn.

Vortex-Induced Vibration Characteristics of an Elastic Circular Cylinder

A numerical simulation of vortex-induced vibration of a 2-dimensional elastic circular cylinder with two degree of freedom under the uniform flow is calculated when Reynolds is 200. 2-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved with the space-time finite element method, the equation of the cylinder motion is solved with the new explicit integral method and the mesh renew is ac...

Two- and Three-Dimensional Simulations of Vortex-Induced Vibration of a Circular Cylinder

Numerical simulations of the interaction between a circular cylinder and its wake during both forced and free, vortex-induced, oscillation have been performed using a spectral element method in which the computational mesh was fixed to the cylinder and the Navier-Stokes equations solved in this accelerating reference frame. Thus far, work has focussed on cross flow, rather than in-line oscillat...

Suppression of vortex-induced vibration of a circular cylinder using suction-based flow control

Keywords: Flow around a circular cylinder Vortex-induced vibration Flow control Steady suction Mitigation of vortex-induced vibration a b s t r a c t In the present study, a flow control method is employed to mitigate vortex-induced vibration (VIV) of a circular cylinder by using a suction flow method. The VIV of a circular cylinder was first reproduced in a wind tunnel by using a spring–mass s...

Free Vibration Analysis of a Six-degree-of-freedom Mass-spring System Suitable for Dynamic Vibration Absorbing of Space Frames

This study is concentrated on the natural frequencies and mode shapes of a simple three-member space frame coupled with a dynamic vibration absorber. The dynamic vibration absorber is modeled as a six-degree-of-freedom mass-spring system. For the first time, the free vibration of an elastic structure with a six-degree-of-freedom mass-spring system is found. Each member of the space frame has un...

Thermal Field Around a Circular Cylinder with Periodic Vortex Shedding

A numerical study is carried out to investigate the laminar forced convection heat transfer from a circular cylinder. The fluid is assumed to be incompressible, the Reynolds number ranged from 0.1 to 1000, and the Prandtl number was equal to 0.7. The range of study includes heat transfer in creeping flow (Re40). The equations were discretized by a control-volume-based finite difference techniqu...
